June 2011 Update
The 2011 nesting season is off to a wonderful start! Almost all
of the 214 boxes on public land are occupied. I have been
receiving weekly reports from most of our monitors, which
has been great!
With the early-wet Spring, we had an influx of ants in nesting
boxes. After changing out multiple nests to rid them of ants, I
discovered ants in a wren nest in my own backyard. There
was no way to reconstruct a wren nest, so I inserted three
bay leaves in the existing nest and a couple under the nest
cup, and within three days all of the ants vacated the nest.
Please make sure that you continue to track you nests
throughout the season and report it through our tracking
